Ad posting tips – How to best sell your stuff

Posted May 14, 2010 by in Blog | 1 comment

Here I will keep a list of good ad posting tips. As new ones come up or are suggested I will update this list so keep checking back for great ideas.

  1. Pick the right category. If you are selling a dog leash put it in Dog Stuff as people may not look in the Dog category for Stuff if you put it under Dogs instead! (confused yet?)
  2. Give a good, descriptive title. That is your selling line. If someone sees “Dog Collar” as a title next to one that reads “Red Leather Large Dog Collar” and they came looking for a red leather dog collar, and you are also selling a red leather dog collar, guess who’s ad they will click on first?
  3. Same thing goes for description, be descriptive! Saying you have kittens for sale is great! Who doesn’t love kittens? It may be better to say at least a bit about the parents (if known) if the kittens are not yet born, and if the kittens are born already, how about some pictures?
  4. That brings me to the next point, Pictures! Whenever possible add at least one picture to your ad. Every ad has the ability to add 3 pictures. I’d highly suggest you use it. Pictures sell, that’s proven. Even when I go to places like Ebay I will hardly ever click on a link that does not show what is being sold.
  5. Location, Location, Location! People want to know where the item is they are looking at. If you don’t want to put the exact address you can put your Postal Code. This will still pinpoint the location without showing your exact address.
  6. Pricing can be done different ways. In this version of the software you can enter non-number characters. That is you can enter a hyphen! So if you are looking for an item, you cam say that you are looking to pay between 20-100 dollars.
If you are selling an item it is preferred by most people that you put a price. Not posting a price or stating “best offer” will only end up in you receiving low-ballers (people who offer very low amounts), and nobody likes low-ballers.
  7. Feature your ad. No matter how old your ad is, if you feature it, the feature slider on the main page will display it rotating with the others. The added visibility is all you need to get that item sold!

I’ll add more as I think of them.  If you think of any feel free to post a comment!
