Pricing changes…Unfortunate

Posted October 24, 2010 by in Blog | No comments yet

Due to a rash of false posts about live pets for sale (I’m not sure how one poster can sell 5 different breeds of dog in 5 different provinces. If you can explain I’d love to know!), I’ve had to place prices on categories that were free before. The prices are just a deterent to those who might otherwise post false ads.

The price to post an ad for a live animal, or a service is now $2. This may stay in place or not. I am testing this to see if it works.

It is still free to post items and adoptions, though Adoptions will need to be approved by me.

If a post for a live animal ends up in the wrong location then it will be removed and you will be emailed.

Adoptions are just that, you can not charge for the animal. it is free to a good home. if I find an ad with a price attached in teh adoptions category it will be removed.

This is unfortunate as I wanted this to be a service people could use to assist in finding your pets a new home. it is becoming difficult to remove the false ads.

New Information Required for Breeder Postings

Posted August 5, 2010 by in Blog | No comments yet

As we grow we find more regulation is required. This next step is to allow us to continue to take breeder postings while at the same time maintaining our stand on quality breeders and ads.

From now on, and this is stated in the Terms and Conditions, all breders will be required to supply their phone number as part of their listing. This will provide the means for any visitor to contact you. Only numbers within Canada will be allowed. Breeders outside of Canada may be allowed to list, but you will need to contact us first for review. The reason for this is to add validity to your ad. If you had a website, or do have a website, I am sure you include your phone number. This adds trust to your ad and gives the visitor the added security that you are a person who is serious about their business.

Additionally all breeders, before thier ad will be allowed to go live, must complete a questionnaire (found in the Contact Us menu). This information gives Rex and Fritz a better picture of what your set up is like and allows us to decide if your listing is going to be allowed.

We reserve final judgement for your ads.

This is the text as found on the Ad Submission Page,

BREEDERS TAKE NOTE

AS A BREEDER you are required to list your ad under one of the BREEDER categories. BEFORE you post your ad, or IMMEDIATELY after you must submit this questionnaire. The information in the questionnaire is only for our reference, and if someone asks regarding the validity of your ad. Your Ad will be rejected after one week if this questionnaire is not received.

If there are any questions or concerns regarding this new regulation please feel free to contact me via the Contact Us link.

We are doing this to protect both the animals and our visitors.

New Point Added to the Terms and Conditions – Mills and Farms

Posted July 20, 2010 by in Blog | No comments yet

I was recently asked about the purpose of Rex and Fritz’z Stuff. Although it appears obvious to me that it is a classified site for selling pet stuff, this visitor asked about my allowing breeders to post and why i should allow them when there are so many homeless pets out there. Her main concern was the multitude of puppy mills in Ontario and Quebec.

I entirely agree, but I also want to be sure that the honest breeders out there have a channel to find suitable homes for thier babies.

The new point in the T&C reads:

  • No ads from breeders who operate in the trade of mass breeding such as puppy mills or pet farms will be allowed. If found to be so, the poster and ad will be reported to the authorities for investigation.

I stand by this. I also ask that anyone coming across an ad here at R&F S please contact me and I will investigate. I will not be a party in such disgusting business practices. This applies to all pet types, not just dogs.

Let’s keep the business of breeding and finding homes clean and proper. After all, our pets deserve the best.

Laser the wonder dog.

Posted July 9, 2010 by in Blog | No comments yet

Laser was only adopted a month before this unbelievable story! After getting off his leash he managed to find his way home.

Dogs sure are amazing animals. Their sense of direction is incredible.

It took him six weeks after slipping his leash, but Laser the beagle has made a remarkable 80-kilometre journey back to his home in Winnipeg.

Parry LePage and his family were at their cottage in Winnipeg Beach on May 22 when Laser got free from his leash after being spooked by a fireworks display. The cottagers, who live in the Winnipeg suburb of Transcona, searched the beach communities north of the Manitoba capital for their dog, but Laser was not to be found.
